Optimists Cricket Club WOCC (Walferdange Optimists) v CCC on Sat 06 May 2017 at 1pm
Optimists Cricket Club Won by 7 wickets

Match report In WOCCs opening LCF match of the 2017 season, 9 brave WOCCers battled it out against the might of CCC.

Skipper, Richard Neale lost the toss and WOCC were asked to have a bowl.

WOCC opened with Mohit and Bobby who both bowled with lively pace and a good line. CCC batsman James Barker was in good form and punished any thing short or wide and was keeping the scoreboard ticking over nicely. James soon reached his 50 and had to retire and just as well as he did as Mike West was coming on at the Fitzgerald Bridge end and about to cause havoc with his spin and guile.

Wicket-keeper Ananth had to stay alert as West bamboozled the CCC batsman and West started his wicket haul with the prize scalp of Codd - a sharp stumping. He then cleaned bowled Peter Welch and further stumping left West with excellent figures of 23-3 off his 4 overs. At the other end, Phil Burleigh was his usual accurate self, landing the ball on a six-pence and letting the ball do the talking as it swung and cut this way and that.

Deepak Gianchandani was the WOCCs death bowler and his flighted off-spin was too good for Beasley who danced down the track, beaten by the flight and another sharp stumping by Ananth.

At the end of the 20 over, CCC has set a total of 135 with the loss of 6 wickets.

In reply, ex-Chairman, Robert Deed opened proceedings with Ananth and straight away, Ananth looked in good touch with some powerful hitting both straight drives and pulls to leg. Rob Deed was unlucky as he middled one to cover, only to be caught by his own player who was substituting for CCC. Phil Burleigh then joined the party but soon departed as he drove back hard and Codd took an excellent one-handed catch off his own bowling.

This brought Richard Neale to the crease and together with Ananth, kept the scoreboard ticking over. Ananth eventually had to retire when he reached a well-deserved 50. Deepak joined Neale, but not for long as he holed out to mid-on for 4.

Pankaj, making his debut for WOCC came to the crease with a cool head and began to push the singles and when Neale retired on 50 too, Mohit obviously had an early train home he needed to catch and pummeled three fours in quick succession to give WOCC a win off 16 overs.

Excellent opening match and WOCC will look to build on this in their push for LCF glory.
