Match report
Stopping off in the Grand Duchy on their six week European tour, the Crusaders of Melbourne Australia had little trouble storming the fortress of the Luxembourg team. Boom boom. Batting first in this T20 game, the classy Crusaders batsmen tucked into some wayward opening bowling, with the hundred coming up in around 10 overs. A cloud burst slowed the outfield and retirements changed the tone somewhat. A wicket each was taken by Anand Panday and Christopher Evans but the eventual total of 157 was always going to be challenging.
Crusaders put their part time bowlers on and they had to contend with Tim Andrews who was wielding his willow like a Saracen sword (boom boom). His 42 came up in no time, but his attacking play eventually led to his downfall when he holed out. No other batsman was able to cut lose for long as wickets fell too frequently as the Crusaders kept the O's on a long leash. So although the result appears close, there was only one team in it.
In good touring fashion the oppo hung around for a beer and a chat until their bus took the players and about a dozen supporters back to their base in Antwerp. Next stop England where, amongst others, they will play games against the MCC, the Duke of Norfolk's XI at Arundel in Sussex and Gloucester CCC 2ndXI at Bristol.
