Optimists Cricket Club 1st XI v Arcadians CC on Sun 24 Jul 2011 at 13:30
Optimists Cricket Club Won by 184 runs

Match report The optimists were on a high after having won a match very comprehensively against the 12 Stars. But they needed to keep the performances up to maintain the winning streak against very good opponents, Arcadians. The usual overcast conditions greeted the players onto the field and once again, the optimists were to bat first. With the openers falling cheaply, it was up to Tony Whiteman and William Heath to deal with the swing and bring some stability into the batting performance.
Tony, who eventually got 66, brilliantly anchored the innings as William made a blistering 42 off just 27 deliveries. He was eventually run out which seemed to be the only possible way to dismiss him. Suresh Kalagara, needing to get back in batting form, put in a good performance with the bat and contributed with 27 runs in a partnership of 73 with Tony.
Though the momentum slowed down a bit during the ending overs, Iqbal, Pandian and Anand ensured that a target score of 253 was reached, 53 of which were through extras.

The overcast conditions remained the same even as the optimists took to the field under the leadership of Joost Mees. Immediately and quite predictably, the Arcadians started to bat very aggressively but the bowlers were quick to recognise that all they needed to do is bowl in the right areas and let the ball do its work.
Luckily, it was not just the ball that was assisting the bowlers, many of the Arcadian batsmen led to their own demise through poor shot selection and incorrect call for runs. Wickets tumbled in quick succession as each bowler put in an excellent performance.
The few glitches in the field fortunately did not cost much as the excellent bowling continued and two very good run outs took place in the field through Aanand Pandey and Deman Smith.
The last four wickets fell for just 5 runs and the Arcadians were left all out for 68, which meant a humungous win for the Optimists by 184 runs. Ultimately, each bowler had an economy of less than 3, showing the command they were in.

Iqbal was once against the star of the bowling line up, taking 3 wickets in his 8.2 overs. Suresh and Pandian took 2 wickets each and Anand also chipped in with a wicket.
