Optimists Cricket Club News story

Chairman's message and 2016 Fixtures overview

24 Mar 2016

Dear all,

Please see the attachment which lists the wide variety of fixtures now planned for this coming summer of cricket in Luxembourg. The overview sheet includes Luxembourg International fixtures, Optimists CC’s competitive and friendly matches, games for the Juniors and Maidens plus the LCF fixtures as well. It is perhaps the hardest job of all each year in creating this schedule and many thanks go once again to Richie Neale for making it happen. Richie now earns a well-earned rest and passes this responsibility on to Graham Cope.

Looking into the season ahead, there are some real highlights to look forward to which include:-
- Our traditional season opening friendly – Captains XI vs Chairmans XI on April 23rd;
- Optimists first home match in the BCF League vs Hasselt CC on May 15th;
- Luxembourg U13s International Tournament on June 18/19th;
- The 11th LCF/OCC Juniors Academy;
- Annual six-a-side tournament on July 2/3rd;
- Optimists CC 40th Anniversary Match & Celebration dinner on July 23rd;
- Luxembourg's National team playing in Hungary in a T20 tournament;
- Cricket in Pink Charity match on August 13th;
- LCF Finals weekend on Sept 17/18th.

I am sure you agree that we have a great summer ahead but it all starts and depends upon everyone volunteering to help out at the ‘Ground Set up Weekend’ of April 16/17th. So please ensure your full commitment to that important process!
Additionally, there are two other aspects which I would like to draw your attention to:-

Availability – if you wish to play for OCC, you need to be a registered member and using the provided UserID and password, ensure your availability is updated via the website. It is actually very easy to do and very important. The Selection Committee will only select players for matches from those who have updated their personal availability within the website. Should you have any difficulty with this, please contact Wayne Codd, Club Secretary.

Club Support – OCC is a growing club about to celebrate its 40th Anniversary. But it only prospers because people are willing to volunteer their time by contributing to tasks in addition to playing. This can involve many aspects from ground maintenance, training juniors, writing match reports and what is called ‘Match Manager duties’ to help prepare and then ensure matches are run successfully for visiting teams. Joost Mees will be leading this area but without everyone’s commitment to this, cricket does not happen. Therefore, please expect to be asked by the OCC Committee members who need your help to make the various parts of our club continue to be successful.

In this way we can all look forward to a fantastic summer of cricket in Luxembourg.
