6-a-Side 2016 - A great weekend with G6 the worthy winners

07 Jul 2016

Playing on a smaller ground and a reduced time format, the purpose of the week-end is to have enjoyable, friendly and social games of cricket where everyone can play coupled with food and drinks throughout the days.

This year, there were 8 teams that made up the tournament and they were split into two groups of 4. Initial Group games were played on the Saturday and following was the semi-finals and  finals that were played on Sunday.

Group 1 teams included G6, skippered by Mohit Dixit, Junior Juniors led by James Barker, Warriors captained by Prasad and Southerners who were skippered by Luxembourg’s own International Captain, Tony Whiteman.

G6 looked a strong side and ended up winning the group with Junior Juniors in second place.

Group 2 teams were Juniors, captained by Ben Embleton, No Bregrets led by Arvind Pandey, CSK led by Murali and the Cricketers who were skippered by Guatham Gianchandani.

Juniors and No Bregrets sauntered to the top of the table finishing first and second respectively.

Two close semi-finals saw G6 and No Bregrets take it through to the final where G6 batted first and scored 62-2 off their 5 overs. In reply No Bregrets fell slightly short finishing their 5 overs on 59-3.

G6 were the worthy winners of the 2016 six a side of which all teams competed in the true cricketing spirit of the game.

The throwing competition was once again won by Aanand Pandey with a throw that nearly landed in the neighbouring houses and a six hitting competition was also held, but less said about that the better (no sixes were hit!).

Another successful and enjoyable event and a big thank you to all the organisers, helpers, scorers, umpires etc. who worked tirelessly before, over and after the week-end to ensure such success.

The next big event is the Optimists 40th Anniversary Party which will be held on 23rd July. Please visit www.optimists.cc for more information.
