Optimists Cricket Club News story

Important Club Notice

31 Jan 2018

Dear Members,

The Walferdange commune has reached out to our club to ask for our assistance in an upcoming event in raising money for a very good cause (see further down email for more information).

As we very much value the support we have received and continue to receive from the commune, we are going to be engaging in various activities to help raise funds such as at the upcoming awards dinner (details of the dinner will follow separately), at the Season Opening Captain’s vs Chairman’s match and on the day of the event (Televie) itself. More information about these events will follow in due course.

However, another way we would like to raise money for this cause is by appealing to you the members to make your own donation no matter what the size (whatever you can spare can really make a difference here). If you would like to make a donation to this cause please find the details below:

Beneficiary:                     Optimists Cricket - Charities
IBAN:                               LU78 0019 5155 5935 9000
SWIFT/BIC:                     BCEELULL

All donations need to be received by 30th March 2018 and raised funds will be accumulated and given to the cause on behalf of the club.

More information about Televie:

Cancer is issue which affects almost everyone either directly or indirectly. For sufferers and their families, it is a burden which has profound effects and finding medical solutions has long been (and continues to be) a priority for researches and charities the world over.

Every year, Luxembourg and Belgium stage a fundraising period (‘Televie’) in order to raise money for a cancer charity (Fonds de la recherche scientifique). Last year over 11 million euros were raised. The main date for the fund raising (and the telethon) this year is the 21st of April but leading up to this there will be various events such as sponsored local cultural events and general fund raising.

Every year, several Luxembourg communes are selected as key partners in the pursuit to help raise as much money as possible and this year our cricketing home (and the commune that has done and  does so much for our club), the commune of Walferdange, has been selected as one of these key partners. As a result the commune has reached out to us as well as other clubs and businesses in the area to help in this very worthy cause. As a club we have always valued our commune and, in a year where we are working very closely with them to get approval and assistance (both financially and logistically), it is even more important that we show our support and how much we feel part of the commune.

Thank you very much for your help and kind regards
