Summary: WOCC1 won by 6 wickets against Star Challengers in the LCF League Division 1 on May 15th 2022 at Pierre Werner Oval, Walferdange cricket ground.
On a hot sunny day with clear skies in the afternoon, Star Challengers won the toss and elected to bat first. WOCC1 opening bowlers Atif Kamal and Ed Packard made is quite difficult for the Challengers batsmen with a combination of pace and discipline. Atif bowled with pace without much luck, whereas, Ed kept asking questions off the opening batsmen. Challengers could only score 26 runs in the initial powerplay of 6 overs while losing opening batsman Anirban Das to a sharp nipping delivery by Ed Packard hitting the top of off stump. WOCC1 bowlers continued to bowl with discipline whereas Challengers kept ticking the scorecard with a cautious approach till the 15th over when the score reached 73 for the loss of 3 wickets. Ahsan Aftab from Challengers came to the crease and lifted Challenger’s run rate by smashing a quick fire 39 off 29 balls (4x4s & 1x6) that helped them score 45 runs off the last 5 overs. WOCC1 skipper Mohit Dixit bowled an exceptional spell of 4 overs for 14 runs taking 1 wicket at the back end of the innings to restrict Challengers at 118. In response, Ed Packard (37 off 36 balls with 5x4s) from WOCC1 started the innings aggressively to take WOCC1 to 43 runs for the loss of 1 wicket in the initial 5 overs. Joost Mees supported well with a steady innings of 23 off 27 balls (1x4, 1x6) whereas Thomas Martin played a valuable unbeaten knock of 25 off just 19 balls (1x4, 1x6) to ensure WOCC remain unbeaten in the tournament.
