For reasons that will become apparent as you read this match-report, it will be short and to the point!
On Sunday, WOCC 2 ventured out onto the PWCG for the first time in 2024 to take on Super Strikers Cricket Club. Things started brilliantly as WOCC 2 won the toss and elected to field.
Wasim Akram (aka Jalal) and Dermot Reeve (aka Wayne), both wise choices to open the bowling, however the Super Strikers batsman were on a mission. Codd trapped one of the openers LBW, but the runs kept flowing.
Skipper, Fitzgerald rotated the bowling but to little effect until he, himself came on and had immediate impact with a wicket. The Skippers 3 overs for only 18 runs and 2 wickets was the standout performance form the WOCC 2 team. Karthik Mai and AKS Singh both batted very well throughout the middle overs and after the 20 overs a score of 162 was posted.
The reply… well, it was faint, more a whimper than a fightback… with Wayne Codd looking to be in good early form. Wayne nearly topped scored with 14 but our old friend Mr. Wides really showed the way with 17. That is pretty much all I am going to say about that innings!
Improvements to be made but it was great to be out and playing cricket again. Congratulations to Super Strikers and thank you to the groundsman. Boundaries were hittable (Certainly by our oppo!) and the ground was in fantastic shape.
