A rude awakening for the 1st XI

10 Jun 2012

The confident 1st XI came down with a bump today vs. a strong Royal Brussels side in the Belgian League 45-over competition. Batting first and all out for a paltry 143 in little over 37 overs, the 1st XI had their backs to the wall.

Despite some sprited bowling, in particular from newcommer Arjun Nandal (6.5-1-29-3), the total was too small to defend and Brussels romped home with overs to spare.

The scale of the defeat as well as similar defeats in the 45-over competition make one ask questions of the batsmen's ability to construct an innings in this era of 20-20 cricket and the quest for quick runs. There's some thinking to do for skipper Joost Mees and coach Ben Embleton.
