Luxembourg's cricketers do battle in Corfu

29 Aug 2012

Luxembourg's cricketers will compete in the official European second division championship in Corfu, Greece between 3rd and 8th September. The goal is climb from the current ranking of 21st out of 31; a creditable position considering the limited playing resources in the Grand Duchy.

You will be able to follow the action with live updates from the ICC Europe website:

Further updates will be posted to www.optimists.cc and luxembourgcricketfederation.hitssports.com if the hotel wifi works.

The squad of 14 is a blend of youth and experience, with five of the party a product of the federation's youth system. The tournament will use the Twenty20 format and Luxembourg leaves with quiet optimism as most of the squad recently played in the Optimists team which only narrowly failed to win the Belgian T20 cup. Our group appears to be the easiest of the two but Israel and Spain start as favourites. The hosts will play in the other group, with their star player set to be ex-Hampshire keeper-batsman Nic Pothas.
