Optimists lose opening BCF match

26 May 2013

As the Optimists arrived at the MCCB ground, the pitch was sodden. It was therefore agreed to let it dry out as much as possible and have a 14:30 start with a reduced game to 35 overs per side.

The Optimists batted first but unfortunately things did not go well. Extras top scored with 28 with Tim Barker (27) contributing and Arjun Nandal (25). At the end of the 35 overs, the Optimists managed a total of 144.

An excellent fielding and bowling performace was needed if the Optimists were to stand a chance of winning. However, the MCCB batsman had other ideas and began extremely positively. That positivity continued to the 13th over when MCCB was amassed 145 with only 4 wickets down. It was incredible batting and the only bowler to shine was Phil Burleigh with 2-15.

A tough start for the Optimists, but a game where we learnt alot and need to work hard to start our promotion campaign.
