Sensless destruction at the Pierre Werner Cricket Ground

23 Aug 2013

On the night of Tuesday 20th August, what must have been a group of very determined vandals, pretty much destroyed the new tent which we had purchased this year. This was a large, heavy structure which took approximately ten members to put up, so it is inconceivable that this was the act of a single person.

It was discovered in this state on Wednesday and the police have been contacted.

Many of the supporting metal bars have been broken and various sections of the awning have been either ripped or punctured. We are now investigating whether we can order replacement parts in order to salvage something from the situation.

This is a great disappointment to the club, as the tent had proved to be an extremely useful addition to the facilities at the PWCG.

If you have any information as to who might have been the ground on the night of Tuesday 20th, then please contact a member of the committee. Joost Mees and William Heath left the ground at 21h00 on Tuesday while rugby training was taking place next door and the tent was intact.

Many thanks
