Relaying wicket successfull

03 Jun 2015

On Wednesday 3rd July, various volunteers from OCC successfully relayed the wicket with the help of the specialist from Notts Sports who we had flown over to help us.

Underneath the wicket are two underlay mats and then compacted sand. The mats (and around one thousand rusty six-inch nails) needed to be pulled up and then the surface of the compacted sand loosened (see picture of OCC volunteers 'hard at work'). Then the whole area leveled and then the mats individually tightened and nailed down.

This should last us for around four years after which we will either repeat the process or the mat will need replacing.

We will have to do some extra watering and rolling of the mat during these first few weeks after relaying, so please help if asked to do so during practice or before/after a match.
