Optimists Cricket Club News story

6-a-Side tournament

19 Jun 2015

Next weekend (June 27/28, 2015) sees the return of the annual 6-a-Side cricket tournament to Luxembourg, organised by the Optimists Cricket Club.

Last year’s tournament, though marred by poor weather on the Saturday, was a triumph for the human spirit with teams and spectators dancing the bad weather away throughout the day.

The participants played their part too by fighting through the conditions to make sure as much cricket as possible was played.

Taking place at the Pierre Werner Cricket Ground in Walferdange, the tournament has become an important and hugely fun fixture in the cricket calendar.

After last year’s success, the structure remains the same with 10-12 teams of six players battling it out in this short, fast and exciting format.

The cricket community will be hoping for good weather all weekend in order to make the best of this entertaining and family-friendly event.

This year there is the added incentive for the organisers as the host club to put on a great event as they look to raise funds for its project to improve the ground's facilities and continue to look to increase its playing membership.

In addition to the exciting new format, there will be the usual BBQ running throughout most of Saturday and Sunday, along with other food options, and the bar will be serving drinks from the moment the first ball is bowled to the moment the trophy is lifted at the end of the weekend.

With a paddling pool for young children, side distractions (throwing competitions, golf pitching, etc) and the chance to watch and learn about cricket, the Optimists hope to put on a fun weekend when everyone is welcome to come down and enjoy a nice weekend.

Attendance is free of charge and the Optimists ask that anyone who drives to the ground to refrain from parking on the residential side of the road.

There is plenty of parking space in the overflow car park in between the swimming pool and the rugby field.
