Match report OCC 2nd XI stumped by Antwerp Indians

The Optimists 2nd XI came up short against a solid AICC side in a keenly-contested but sportsmanlike game in Antwerp on Saturday. After winning the toss and electing to bat, OCC looked well set at 110-1 off 15 overs, thanks to a fine knock from Roshan (45), for which Piran (23) acted as an excellent foil. Following their dismissals, however, no one made more than 20 against some tight and unpredictable AICC bowling, and the last wicket fell in the 43rd over with the score on 188.

This proved to be an insufficient total on a ground with short boundaries square of the wicket. Despite some accurate and incisive bowling, particularly from Steve, Mohit, Kumar and Piran, fuelled by an excellent curry tea, AICC kept up with the asking rate for the first half of the innings for the loss of just 2 wickets. Then Jeroen struck with his first ball, afterwards collecting another scalp. Unfortunately, this only seemed to serve as a catalyst for AICC to hit out and reach the target for the loss of 5 wickets with several overs to spare.

In all, the OCC performance had been as promising, but as yet incomplete, as the wonderful temple under construction adjacent to the ground. It was, however, a marked improvement on the previous match and, like the temple, the future still has much positive in store for this team and 2nd XI cricket in general.
