Dear OCC & WOCC Members, dear Lux cricket enthusiasts,
One week ago we all watched in horror and shock how the Russian army invaded Ukraine and every day since then this humanitarian crisis is expanding rapidly, far beyond our imaginations. This morning I read that at this moment one million refugees have already fled Ukraine in the week since Russia's invasion.
Today I spoke with Pavel Florin, a fellow Romanian cricketer who many of us have met before and played against. He is right now involved with an organisation named, CERT Transilvania (https://www.facebook.com/cert.transilvania), and they organise aid (transports) to the border of Ukraine from Romania. Since the beginning of the war they have managed to deliver essential goods to the border and to take refugees to safe shelter on their way back.
On behalf of all of the OCC Committee, I would like to ask you all to donate whatever you want to give, either by wire transfer to the OCC bank account mentioning ‘Ukraine’ in the reference; or for the WOCC players to bring cash to the dinner on Saturday; or for the attendees to the OCC Awards dinner on the 18th of March and we will deposit it to our account and make a full transfer of the total funds to CERT Transilvania. We know and trust Pavel will ensure safe and considerate use of these funds to places and people that need it most.
