Cricket season opens with Captain's XI vs. Chairman's XI

15 Apr 2012

The editor has recovered enough from his mild hypothermia from having watched 20 overs of the season's opening game to type this report. Amateur estimate of the temperature - approx. 5 degrees Celcius, with what felt like a 10 degree wind chill. Just an estimate.

The match, in the end was a rather one-sided affair. Chairman's XI were 133 all out. Ben Embleton top-scoring with a stylish 74. Niraj Trivedi bowled a tight spell and was rewarded with two wickets. In response, Captain's XI easily reached the total with only two wickets down, Tim Barker making a punchy 53.

Well done to families Deed, Baker, Mees, Fitzgerald, van der Knoop for braving the siberian conditions in order to enjoy the spectacle at least for a while. Or did they come for a cup of tea?

Finally, welcome to Steve Clarke, playing his first game for the Optimists.
