The Annual 6-a-Side Tournament 2014
Tournament Rules
- General
- Tournament dates – weekend 5/6 July 2014
- The Tournament will consist of three Rounds: First Round, Semi-Finals and Final.
- Matches will begin promptly at 10.00 each day; players in the first matches are asked to be present from 09.40 to assist with preparations.
- Each player may play for one team only during the tournament.
- There will be a EUR 60 entry fee for each team, to be paid before or within one week of the tournament to the OCC BCEE Account IBAN LU31 0019 1000 4983 8000.
- The Organiser will provide to each team Captain a printed Order of Play showing a purely indicative starting time for each match. Team Captains are responsible for ensuring that their players are available to play whenever one of their team’s matches is due to start. The two Captains must toss in time for the match to start as soon as the previous match is over.
- In the event of rain, the umpires shall take the decision to lead players from the field of play. In the event of a break during the first innings, after a first delay of 5 minutes, the game shall be reduced by one over for each subsequent 5 minutes of delay. In the event of a break during the second innings, the game shall continue when possible until its conclusion.
- Bowlers will bowl only from one end on each pitch, and batsmen will then quickly swap at the end of each over. The “Swimming Pool end” will be used on the Tony Dunning pitch. On the Pierre Werner pitch, both innings of each match will be bowled from the same end, but alternate ends should be used for successive matches.
- The Laws of Cricket apply, apart from any variations arising from the specific rules listed for this tournament. Teams are reminded that the spirit of cricket should apply in all cases.
- The Organisers’ and Umpires’ decisions will be final.
- Rules for the Tony Dunning Pitch
- The Try Line of the Rugby pitch will mark the boundary on either side of the wicket.
- The boundary behind the bowler is marked by the long grass.
- If the ball hits the netting, the 2 wooden benches located at approximately backward square leg and short 3rd man, or anything (except the wicketkeeper) between those 2 benches, 2 runs and a dead ball shall be called.
- The boundary to the outside of the 2 benches shall be marked by the longer grass until the try line on the “houses” side and shall be explicitly marked until the try line on the river side.
- First Round matches
- Each innings will consist of 5 x 8-ball overs.
- Overs must be bowled by five different players; the starting wicket keeper shall not bowl.
- Batsmen are required to retire as soon as they reach or pass 20 runs. Only one retired batsman may return to bat per innings. The batting skipper must nominate this batsman once all 6 batsmen are out or retired. Having reached 40, a returning batman must retire. He shall not be allowed to return.
- Each batting team has 6 wickets; when 5 wickets have been lost, the not-out batsman may continue with the last man out as a non-striking partner.
- Each Wide or No-ball will incur a penalty of 2 runs in addition to any runs scored otherwise, with no extra balls normally being bowled. However the Umpire may require an extra ball to be bowled if at any time he considers that a Wide has been bowled intentionally. In the last over of each innings only, an extra ball will be bowled for each Wide or No-ball bowled in addition to the 2 runs scored.
- Bowlers’ run-ups will be limited to five steps. No-ball will be called whenever a Bowler’s run-up exceeds this limit. It is the Umpires’ duty to ensure this is enforced. The batsmen may draw the Umpires’ attention to an excessively long run-up.
- The First Round will consist of two Groups; within each Group each team will play each other team once on a league basis.
- Matches will be played according to the published Order of Play, irrespective of availability of individual players.
- 2 points will be awarded for a win and 1 for a tie.
- If, at the end of the First Round, two teams finish level on points within a Group, the team which has won the head-to-head match will take the higher league position. If more than two teams finish on level points, with shared head-to-head results, or if there is a tie in a head-to-head match, the team which has taken the more wickets will be declared the Winner.
- The two top teams in each Group in the First Round will qualify automatically for the Semi Finals of the Cup.
- Semi-Final and Final matches
- Teams will play the semi-finals according to their position in their respective first round groups, and the final will be contested by winners of the semi-finals.
- The rules will be identical to those for the First Round matches.
- The team with the higher score will be declared the Winner. In the event of level scores, the team which has taken the more wickets will be declared the Winner.
