Obituary - Angus Mackay

27 Mar 2017

It is with regret that the Club announces the passing of one of its founding members, Angus Mackay, on 21st March. The origins of the OCC go back to the early 1970s. With the accession of the UK to the then common market, there was a sudden influx of cricket-playing expats to Luxembourg. And with it, Angus, who joined the European Court of Justice and helped bring cricket to Luxembourg, where it has stayed ever since. He is remembered by those who played with him as a determined opening batsmen who was very difficult to get out. He once batted an entire 40-over innings, reaching his 50 in the final over. As a former captain of the club, I could certainly have done with a batsman of such application.

After retiring from cricket, Angus came down to the ground every summer to watch the game. It was very inspiring to see that the love of the game can live on, long after one’s playing days are over.

Angus’ funeral was held today at the church in Bridel. Bryan Rouse delivered some flowers on behalf of the Club.
