2024 PM T10 Cup

Match report 1 – WOCC vs Star by Reinhardt Heyns

On the 12th – 14 July, the Pierre Werner Cricket Ground played host the very anticipated 2024 edition of the PM T10 cup. The ever, eluding cup for WOCC. All to play for as the winning team secures a spot to go to Malaga. Weather predictions throughout the previous week suggested a weekend of rain, but the only rain we had were sixes. WOCC’s 1st opponent was against the very dangerous and old rival Star CC.

After a surprisingly toss win by skipper Ed “hereinafter Skip”, and a very efficient warmup for WOCC standards, the team was ready to head on to the field, but only with 10 men. A last, minute show by Milad “hereinafter Milada”, meant 11 players were on the field and ready for the 1st ball to be bowled. A relatively standard field was set for the 1st ball to be bowled. Little did everyone know, Reinhardt “hereinafter Reiny” spent numerous late nights analyzing the opposition and suggested a field change to whom Skip agreed to. In came cow corner and out went deep extra cover (ish position). And boy, was this a good move.

Skip took the new ball and after conceding a single of the first ball, took a wicket with his second ball. Great catch by Hashmat “Hereinafter Hazmat or Hashmatta”. Guess where was the catch? Deep extra cover 😊. Removing the dangerous Vijay. Skip continued bowling well and only conceded 8/1 of his 1st over.

The ball was handed over to the experienced Mohit “Hereinafter Superman”. After conceding 1 run of his 1st ball, Superman removed the big fish, Shiv. And guess how? A good catch by Hazmat in the deep extra cover position. Superman continued bowling well and ended his 1st over for 7/1. Star on the backfoot at 15/2.

In came the very dangerous Jatan. Skip continued mixing up the pace and bowled great line and length balls and only conceded 7 runs of his second over. Finishing his spell for 15/1 and Star 22/2 after 3 overs.

Bowling over 4 was the new and fairly unknown, Hashmatta. And oh boy, did he bowl well. Great pace, line and length, mixed with bouncers and full deliveries. Hashmatta finished a tidy over of 4/0 and Star 26/2 after 4 overs.

Next up was the tall South African figure in the form of Andries “hereinafter Handbrake”. Taking into consideration Handbrake was bowling with one fully functional knee, he bowled well. Unfortunately, Jatin & Ady was starting to see the ball well. Handbrake ended his over for 17/0 and Star 43/2 after 5 overs.

Hashmatta stepped up to bowl his second over. After conceding three singles, he edged Ady who was caught by keeper William “hereinafter Billy Boy” stretching out to take a superb one-handed catch. Hashmatta conceding 10 runs and ending his spell with 13/1 after 2 overs. Star 53/3 after 6 overs.

Skip handed the ball over to the very dangerous Milad “hereinafter Milada”. Barely arriving to the game on time, Milada looked fired up. Dismissing Roshan with his 1st ball with a good catch by Superman at long on and also bowling another Star batsman with his last ball, meant Milada ended his 1st over for 8/2 and Star on 61/5 after 7 overs.

Back came Superman and bowled a tidy over only going for 5 runs. Ending his spell 12/1 and Star 66/5 after 8 overs bowled.

Skip decided it was time for spin and handed the ball over to Izhar “hereinafter Izzy”. Izzy found his length and got the wicket of Jatan with another good catch by Superman at long on. Finishing his over for 9/1 and Star 75/6 after 9 overs bowled.

Milada bowled another great final over of the innings and only conceded 7 runs. Finishing his spell for 15/2 and Star ending up with 82/6 after 10 overs.

A great display of fielding and bowling restricted Star to a below par score. With a quick break in between, the WOCCERS geared up to go bat.

Opening batsmen, Skip and Billy boy looked determined to get WOCC off to a good start. Good balls were respected and bad balls were punished. Skip and Billy boy got WOCC off to a flyer and ended the second over for 29/0. Billy Boy got out caught early in the 3rd over, followed by a 1st ball wicket of Oves also being caught. In came Aman “hereinafter This guy can bat” and continued hitting boundaries. WOCC 43/2 after 3.

A mixed over of boundaries and the wicket of Skip (lbw bowled by Shiv), meant WOCC were 55/3 after 4 overs. Malith joined This guy can bat, and they both were seeing the ball really well. Hitting 12 runs of the 5th over and 15 of the 6th, WOCC 80/3 after 6 overs.

WOCC finally chased the score down ending on 87/3 after 6.2 overs. Hats off again to the bowling and fielding performance. Heritage was up next for the 2nd game.
