Optimists Cricket Club Won By 43 runs

Match report Pleasant weather on Sunday welcomed Brussels Greens at the PWCG. Brussel Greens won the toss and opted to chase. Optimists opened the innings with Romil and Vijay. Optimists lost their first wicket (Romil) at the end of 5th over to a one handed screamer at slip. Scott Browne joined Vijay and kept the scoreboard moving along. Vijay was the next to depart against the run of play. At the end of 9th over, the scoreboard read 40 for the loss of 2 wickets. Girish joined Scott and Optimists were in need of good partnership. The pair put on a 50 runs before Girish was caught at deep-midwicket. Scott at the other end looked all set for a big innings, putting the bad balls away and constructing a fantastic innings. Pankaj then joined Scott but was unfortunately run out trying to steal an extra run. At the end of 26 overs, the scoreboard read 127 for 4. The match was evenly poised. It was a chance for Brussel Greens to sneak in a few quiet overs and Optimists needed a partnership before the big final assault. Vishy joined Scott and the runs started to flow from both ends. Scott and Vishy punished the bad balls and kept rotating the strike. They put on 85 runs in the next 12 overs. Vishy got out trying to accelerate. At the end of 38 overs, the scoreboard read 213 for 5. The optimists were set for a big final push in the last 7 with 5 wickets in hand and Scott still going strong. Scott completed his well-deserved century in the 43rd over. Handy contributions from the lower order resulted in Optimists finishing at 290/7 at the end of their 45 overs.
Optimists knew the job was half done. Brussel Greens started cautiously against Mohit and Pankaj. Bowling like Batting was all about partnerships. Thanks to the pressure created by Pankaj, Mohit struck twice and Ankush took the opening batsman out in his very first over. At the end of 15 overs, Brussel Greens were struggling at 48 for 3. Brussels Greens’s two most experienced batsmen, who play for the first team put together 113 runs in the next 19 overs. Despite not picking wickets, the Optimists kept a lid on the scoring rate as they realized the scoreboard pressure will eventually get to the opposition. The 4th wicket fell in the 33rd over to Anshuman caught by Scott. The opposition batsman got out to a well made 83. At the end of 34 overs, the scoreboard now read 173 for 4. The opposition needed 118 off the last 11 overs. Ankush was got into the attack and got another wicket, while Anshuman was building pressure at the other end. With pressure building, wickets fell at regular intervals. Ankush wrapped the opposition up with a five for. He was equally supported by Anshuman and Mohit with 2 wickets each. Scott Browne couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day as he completed 3 catches to complement his wonderful innings. Brussels Greens were all out for 247 in the 44th over and Optimists won by 43 runs. Credit to the bowlers for having given away only 17 extras. The win puts the Optimists on the top of the table and places them well ahead of the playoff.
